Description: Inspired by Gian Lorenzo Bernini's 1622-1625 marble statue of the Phoebe and Daphne in Ovid’s Metamorphosis, the work of art tells the story of a love that could never truly be, unless she be turned into a tree. Details in the work include the connecting fabric intertwined around the subjects, the leaves and foliage surrounding the environment, a rose placed above her head hangs like a halo symbolic of the love shared between them. Green ivy leaves wrap slowly around the torso of the body climbing up higher and closer to her head, the moment just be before she is consumed and turned into a tree.
